KEITH STEPHAN at age 26, 6'3 221 lbs Chest 51 exp. Waist 32.5, biceps cold 18 1/4 but pump to 19. Calf 16 3/4 thighs 26, forearms flexed 16 1/2. Keith Stephan is one of the many extraordinary athletes trained by the famous gym instructor, Leo Stern of San Diego.
Stephan is perhaps one of the most impressive men ever to come out of the Stern gym. He feels Leo can take much of the credit for what he has become today, for it was Leo who spent long hours helping to "shape up" his body, teach him to pose, and sponsor him in contests.
While it is true that there are many gym operators whose only (or at least primary) concern is how much money they can make, we honestly believe that this man is wholeheartedly devoted to the cause of physical well-being for everyone, and that is why he is so strongly concerned about all aspects of the physical culture field. AMG offers 12 photos of Stephan for $2.50. 15 catalogs $1.50,
6 35mm color slides $3.

SAN DIEGO TRUNK MERCHANT MORALLY CONDEMNS PHYSIQUE PHOTOS NOT IN TRUNKS. Writing in the April-May 56 edition of Iron Man magazine, Leo Stern has written a rather stern article about photos in which he says "the subject has nothing to be admired in the way of a physique or he is in some attire totally alien to the pose and thought behind the physical display. In every case I am referring to, they wear nothing in the way of trunks." Mr. Stern says if he found his sons admiring a photograph of that type his "first act would be to rush them to a qualified psychoanalyst Without quoting his authority he goes on to say that it is "common knowledge" that the decline of the Grecian "nation" and Roman Empire was due to the "lack of morals of the people" and exhorts us not to let this happen here in America, and implies that photos, costumes, etc., which he does not endorse might bring about that downfall. He insists that we not feel he might be prejudiced just because he happens to be in the posing trunk business, but while he's on the subject he declares that his trunks are "adequate" for displaying all of the parts of the body that "should be seen" Apparently he feels that bodybuilders and artists should ignore such muscles as the Gluteus Maximus, Gluteus Medius, Tensor Vaginae Femoris, Sartorius, Obliques, etc, all of which are hidden in even the briefest trunks, but not in the conventional strap most physique photographers employ. (Try to read this article for yourself, book is 35c from Iron Man, Alliance Nebraska) Leo Stern has made some magnificent contributions to the cause of health and physical improvement--it is regrettable that he now shows intolerance for those in his field whose viewpoint and perspective may differ but who share many of his own fine objectives. In our "scheme of things" we have a place for Mr. Stern; we are sorry if his philosophy excludes us.
